This chair was designed for Issey Miyake, a fashion designer who was interested in the relationship between fashion and the body. His explorations of pleating fabric allowed him to create bouncy, playful silhouettes that draped seamlessly over the body and produced maximum comfort and freedom.
We interpreted Issey’s ideas about movement, draping and the body to design a chair that bounces when sat on. This bounce is an entire choreography, similar to issey’s textiles. The glue-laminated plywood legs and the organza pleated cover reverberate in tandem as the body shifts while sitting on the chair, providing maximum comfort, but also subtle joy.
